Those in stand alone houses in my area are still mostly white. Personally I live in a complex in what is described as an affluent area and the majority of my neighbours in the complex are black. So called "white" areas are not all that white anymore and this is especially true in Joburg. There is not enough housing in cities so people have no option but to live in Townships and informal settlements.Īll this being said, the black middle class is increasing. The majority of people in rural areas are again black as they are majority demographic. Urbanisation is still on the increase where people from rural areas are coming to Joburg looking for work. Most people that fall into that statistic are the majority demographic (black) and have no other option then to live in Townships.

We have 26% unemployment rate here in SA. Those living in them are there now due mostly to thier current economic situation. Living in Townships is not forced as it was in Apartheid days.
